Gluconolactone also known as Glucono delta-lactone is an organic compound from the Lactones’ group, cyclic ester of d-gluconic acid. It is created in nature, for example, during corn seeds fermentation process. It is used as a stabilizer, hardener and pH regulator in food industry. It can be found on labels as a number E575.

Gluconolactone is neutral, but combined with water it hydrolyzes into gluconic acid (PHA), which is acidic. The acid is extremely moisturizing thanks to high hydroxyl value in its molecules..
