Marshmallow Root Extract - Organic

Marshmallow is a herb of the mallow family (Malvaceae) ,occurring in Central, Southern and Eastern Europe.

Used parts are the roots of plants. They contain about 20-30% of mucus as well as:

• an asparagine (1-2%),

• a pectin(10-12%),

• a large amounts of starch (35%),

• a sugar (5-10%),

• a betaine (2%),

• a tannins (2%),

• a mineral salts (5-8%)

• a trace amounts of essential oil.

Marshmallow is also rich in vitamins, especially A, C, D, E and Group B. Thanks to its properties (mainly contained in the mucus) marshmallow has been used since antiquity. The Romans used it mainly as a food product. Traditionally, its softening and soothing properties were used in the treatment of respiratory catarrh, stomach ulcers and inflammation of the skin and - mainly the digestive tract.

In cosmetics marshmallow is highly regarded and known for its benevolent actions:

• softens and smoothes the skin,
• has anti-inflammatory properties,
• protects the skin against the environment and cause it to regenerate,
• soothes irritation,
• ideal preparations for sensitive,
• protects dry skin and hair, and also soothes burns,
• great component compresses on the eyes and face lotions,
• The ideal product in the fight against cracked heels.

Marshmallow inhibits degradation of hyaluronic acid, which is one of the major components of the intercellular cement and is responsible for the cohesion of the connective tissue and the elasticity of the skin. This has a positive impact on the behavior of the proper degree of moisture, protecting against aging.
